Om Merima Bruncevic

I am a writer, researcher and associate professor of Art Law and Legal Philosophy at University of Gothenburg in Sweden, and affiliated fellow at Università Degli Studi Roma Tre in Rome, Italy. My publications include the books Law, Art and the Commons (Routledge, 2018) and Regulating Transnational Heritage: Memory, Identity and Diversity (Routledge, 2022). I work in an international network of researchers and artists, and my work is multi-disciplinary, experimental, and dedicated to exploring the boundaries and spaces of law. My PhD is in legal philosophy, and I have a background in the entertainment industry. Art history, cultural theory, and aesthetic approaches have always held a prominent place in my work. I have studied cultural commons, international copyright law, cultural heritage, freedom of artistic speech and access to museums. My areas of interest are regulation of cultural expressions and the creative potential of an inclusive and decolonised law. Inspired by the multi-disciplinary research fields of which I am part such as Law & Art, Law & Literature, Critical Studies, and Spatial Justice, my work is conducted by posing unexpected questions to empirical and legal material. I explore interdisciplinary, speculative, and experimental theories and methods, as well as study the intersections and narratives of law and art. My work is socially engaged, politically and theoretically informed, and aesthetically orientated.
